Canele Patisserie Chocolaterie - Shaw Center

extremely tired from the morning flight and too much napping... but managed to drag myself out anyway... a tad excited to find the right time to wear that dc pants out... haha... been meaning to try out the place for a while.. someone that i asked previously thought the place is a scam... still i'm a sucker of modern marketing...

Iced Honey Lemongrass
cant taste the lemongrass....

Salade "Canele"
crab meat, hard boiled egg, tomato, mesclun salad, sunflower and pumpkin seed with citrus vinaigrette

needed something light after all that pigging out back home plus after the flight and spending the day napping, my tummy is an acid mess... the greens were a balance of the normal crunch with a lil of the spicier bitter leaves which paired perfectly with the tangy dressing.. it gets better on the odd mouthful with salty seeds... if i have to complain... there was to much crab and dressing... yes, i'm actually serious...

Eggs Florentine
Poached eggs with hollandaise, sauteed spinach, paris ham on toasted brioche

how someone could have eggs florentine for dinner still amaze me... i took a bite anyway, and it was pretty good... presentation wise... well, the neighbour cant stop staring.. he even ignored the menu and went straight to pointing at the plate for his order...

Earl Grey
earl grey ice cream with raspberry jelly and milk chocolate shards

we were extremely dissapointed when the plate came... for a place that specializes in dessert, i believe they could do better in presentation... still, the tongue loves the earl grey ice cream and raspberry combi

the takeaway
the only words the pops up were "david jones".... lol

Tarte Citron
almond tart filled with lemon cream, torched italian meringue and candied lemon peel

Cafe Caramel
milk chocolate coffee mousse, chocolate genoise with espresso, salty caramel and hazelnut feullitine

Rating: 8/10
thumbs up for food and decor... the concept of al fresco on the side of orchard rd (ok, fine... scotts) need to be revised... at least, they need to change the fan to something more cooling... finally, how was it that they had 4-5 waiters for the mere 12 tables (mostly for two) outside and i still need to wave like a mad person to get a new straw???

That has got to be the most indulgent Eggs Florentine ever...wish I could have that for breakfast every single day...(and have my heart ventricles closing by the time I'm 30) LOL
